Spend Some Peaceful and Calm Time Kennin-ji Temple

Hello everyone!

Kimono Rental Wargo Kiyomizudera Chawanzaka Store here!

August is over and we’ve entered September already!

Kimono (together with yukata) will be available from September, so those who have not had the chance to wear a yukata this year, or want to wear a kimono, you can choose between those two during September (^-^)

Also, since yukata is available only until the end of September, this month is the last chance to wear yukata!

If you haven’t worn a yukata this year, please come to wear a yukata at Kimono Rental Wargo and make a good memory in the remaining days of summer (^-^)

It’s getting a little cooler, the summer vacation period is over and if you are someone who want to experience the peaceful and calm side of Kyoto, we recommend you to visit the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto called “Kennin-ji Temple”.

Kennin-ji Temple featured the national treasure of the Fujin and Raijin (The Wind and Thunder Gods) figure on a pair of two-fold screens.

It is also famous for the “Twin Dragon” painting on the ceiling of the main lecture hall of the temple, Hodo Hall, a painting that has the size of 108 tatami mats, was made in 2002 to commemorate the 800th anniversary of Kennin-ji Temple’s founding.

The “Twin Dragon” painting is a very powerful artwork with beautiful details, so please take a look at it when you visit Kennin-ji Temple!

On the front yard of the important cultural property, “Hojo”, there is “Daiouen”, a dry landscape garden which scenery shows a great taste.

So if you wear a yukata or kimono and take some photos with “Daiouen”, you can get great photos to post on instagram!

Surprisingly, there were only a few people when we visited Kennin-ji, so it was really quiet and peaceful. You can also take some rest in this area, because there are many benches installed in various places.

Please wear a yukata or kimono, take a lot of photos, and slowly cool your soul down while looking at the beautiful garden (^-^)

It is a 5-minute walk from the “Higashiyama Yasui” bus stop, so please use the city bus when you want to visit Kennin-ji Temple!

There is also Yasaka Shrine nearby, so please stop by.

This is a photo we took at Kennin-ji Temple.
