Here at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, the event “A Thousand Candles” or “Sentomyo” , was held on September 25th, an event to enjoy the quiet autumn night. We got invited to the mysterious world that was made to comfort Tenjin Deity’s Spirit.
At 8 o’clock in the evening, electricity was turned off, and although there was a lot of people, a quiet time was flowing, and after receiving the signal from the drums, the thousand candles were lit around the bridge of Shinji-ike Pond.
The light reflected on the surface of the pond was very beautiful.
After that, the Maikagura (Shinto music and dance) was played on the stage placed on the pond surrounded by candlelight.
From the road near the candles, lanterns decorated with children’s painting were lined up along the road from Tenmangu shrine to the National Museum, creating a light trail.
The paintings were all different, they were very cute and lovely.
