Sumida River Fireworks in yukata!!

We can’t deny our surprise towards July 2017; the weather has for sure broke records!! July might be famous for being the hottest month of the year, but this time it was something in Tokyo! The mercury remain, nothing less, nothing more, than between 30 and 34 degrees every day! If you are coming from a cold city like me you probably got shocked!!

Besides all, we hope it didn’t stop you from doing your daily activities and also, the most important, have fun!! Fortunately, as July is soon reaching its end the mercury starts slowly but surely to go down and become more chilled.

Did you have the chance to go to a matsuri yet? Many interesting ones have just passed, but other are still on the way. As we covered a lot of the Kansai festivities lately, we decided to introduce you today to some Kanto festivities.

Are you familiar with the Sumida River Fireworks Festival? If not, you should not miss the opportunity to attend it this Saturday!!

This matsuri is one of the most famous fireworks events of Tokyo! Located on the Sumida River close to Asakusa Station, it is held every year since 1733!! It was originally organized for bringing back the morale of the city after a heavy famine that year. Due to various circumstance, it used to be canceled few times until 1978, when it became a permanent annual celebration.

This year, the organizing committee announced that 22, 000 fireworks will be launched and that about a million spectators are expected!!

If you are around Tokyo you cannot miss this must-see evening!! We also suggest you follow the crowd and put a nice yukata on!!
