Do you know how to tie a obi?
No? Let us introduce you then the Bunko Bow/Bunko Obi, aka the easier obi style to tie up!!\(^▽^)/
This style is very versatile and can be used in any occasion regardless of age. As the basic bow, it is important to master it before learning any complex style. Let’s try to learn it!
.
.
.
1. Take 60cm (an arm length) of one of the obi extremity and fold its width in half. We call the folded part tesaki (手先) and the part rolled around your waist tare (たれ).
.
.
2. Put the tesaki over your right shoulder, keep this part still with a clip. Then, begin wrapping the tare part around your back over the kimono folded waist area.
.
.
3. Carefully tie the tare around your waist once or twice (depends on your size) holding the obi to make sure that it doesn’t fall down during the process.
.
.
4. Hold tightly the other extremity of the obi with your left hand and pull the obi horizontally with your right hand.
.
.
5. Then roll the obi around your stomach and fold it up obliquely. (see the dot line)
.
.
6. Take the tesaki and tare and join them into a simple knot.
.
7. Twist the knot in the opposite direction to make sure it do not get loose.
.
.
8. Fold the end of the tare the length of your shoulder (this is the width of the final bow) and roll it up.
.
.
9. Pinch the fabric at the center.
.
.
10. To shape the bow, put the tesaki down, over the pinched part, tuck inward and wrap around the pinched part twice.
.
.
11. Fold up the remaining part of the tesaki and hide it under the bow.
.
.
12. Adjust the bow shape and turn it by your right side to your back; FINISH!!
